There are some wedding days that just stay with you- and this one, tucked into the quiet mountain charm of Waynesville, North Carolina, was one of those.
From the beginning, everything about this intimate North Carolina wedding felt intentional. Rooted in faith, full of love, and grounded in the kind of traditions that make a wedding day personal and memorable.
One of my favorite parts of this day?
The bottle of bourbon.
The night before the ceremony, the bride and groom followed an old southern tradition: they buried a full bottle of bourbon upside down at the ceremony space- it is meant to bring good luck and ward off rain on the big day. and somehow… it worked!
The skies stayed perfectly overcast from the moment they started getting ready all the way through the ceremony, dinner, and dancing. The sun decided to peak out for a bit as they celebrated with their closest friends and family. Every little detail reflected who they are and what they value most, from the handwritten letters during the rehearsal to the little bouquet charms of those so near and dear that were watching the day from up above.
Their ceremony was so beautiful and heartfelt- centered entirely on their love for each other and their love for Jesus. It wasn’t about a performance or a checklist. It was worshipful and moving, filled with prayer, scripture, and sacred quiet moments that felt bigger than all of us.
Then, just as the night began to wind down, the sky opened up. The rain poured- but only after all the events of the day were complete. It was like the Lord gave them the gift of one perfect day before soaking the earth in celebration.
Before the night ended, they dug up the buried bottle of bourbon and shared it with their people. It was such a fun, full-circle moment. A small tradition that held off the rain for most of the day.
Documenting this Waynesville intimate wedding in the North Carolina mountains was such an honor. These are the kinds of days I hold close-where every piece of the story is infused with meaning, where you can feel the love of family and friends, and something that feels greater.
If you’re planning an intimate wedding ANYWHERE, I would be so honored to capture your love story. In Colorado, In the United States, or Internationally, let’s plan a beautiful day that can be held for generations to come.
